Pool rulesets & house rules

VIC and NSW rules built in, editable House Rules, and fully custom rulesets — settle every argument from the TV.

Every pool game (except Kelly Pool) is logged under a ruleset. Rulesets do two jobs: they tag your history with which rules you played, and they give you a plain-English rules document you can read straight off the screen to settle an argument mid-frame.

The rulesets grid

Open the Pool tab and find Rulesets. Every cave starts with three:

RulesetWhat it is
VIC RulesVictorian Eight Ball Association (VEBA) summary — built in, read-only
NSW RulesNSW Billiards & Snooker Association (NSWBA) summary — built in, read-only
House RulesYour table, your rules — every cave has one, and owners can edit it

Tap any card to read the full rules document, section by section. Owners will also see a New ruleset card for adding more.

Edit your House Rules

House Rules ship with sensible garage defaults until you make them yours:

  1. Tap the pencil on the House Rules card.
  2. Work through the options (below), picking the choice your table plays.
  3. Add any House Extras — free-text rules of your own, up to 20 of them.
  4. Save. The rules document regenerates from your choices.

You can always reset House Rules back to the shipped defaults.

What you can configure

The editor covers the eleven genuinely contested parts of garage eight-ball, grouped into four sections:

The Rack & The Break

  • Legal break — pot or 4+ to a cushion / pot or 2+ to a cushion / any break counts
  • Black potted on the break — re-spot & re-break / full re-rack / breaker wins
  • How groups are decided — first pot after the break / balls potted on the break

Fouls & Penalties

  • Penalty for a foul — two shots / one shot / ball in hand
  • Cue ball after a foul — played from where it lies / in hand from baulk / in hand anywhere
  • Do both shots carry? — carry after a pot / a pot uses the extra shot
  • Snookered by a foul — free ball / play it as it lies

The Black Ball

  • Potting the black — any pocket / nominated pocket / same pocket as your last ball
  • In-off while potting the black — loss of game / re-spot & play on

Table Play

  • Jump shots — foul / allowed
  • Playing back from baulk — forward only / any direction

Add more custom rulesets

Play different rules on Sunday arvos than on tournament night? Tap New ruleset, name it (up to 40 characters), make your choices, and save. Custom rulesets appear in the ruleset picker whenever you start a game, and can be edited or deleted any time.
